Kehinde Wiley Self-Portraits
Students will create art inspired by Kehinde Wiley.
Students will observe Wiley's portraits and replicate floral patterns.

Middle, 6th-8th
Huichol Yarn Painting
Students will learn about the yarn painting technique practiced by the Huichol people. Students will replicate the technique with content personal to themselves.

Elementary, K-2nd
School of Fish
Students will be introduced to Gyotaku printmaking and practice printmaking by stamping with a sponge and q-tip. Students will learn fine motor skills by using scissors and drawing details.

Middle, 6th-8th
Pattern-scape Scenes
Students will learn about foreground, middle grounds, and backgrounds. They will create their own scene and use patten to denote the different layers of the scape.

Elementary, 3rd-5th
Pop Food Art
Students will learn about the Pop Art style. They will then use complimentary colors to create their own Pop Art featuring their favorite food.

High, Digital Design
Digital Self-Portraits
Students will learn how to use a digital drawing program, such as Adobe Illustrator, to create a self-portrait. Students research self-portraiture, create multiple ideas, self reflect on their work, and engage in a group critique of the artwork.

Wild Weaving
Students will explore the technique of basket weaving by creating multicolored, small baskets.

Mehendi Yarn
Students will learn about the practice of Mehendi. They will then replicate the designs with yarn or string on a paper cut out of their hand.

Elementary, 4th-5th
Picasso Monsters
Students will observe the art and abstraction of Pablo Picasso. They will learn about shapes and work collaboratively to make Picasso-like monsters.

Middle, 6th-8th
Leaf Impressions
Students will create clay pinch pots and use leaves to create impressions in the clay.

Elementary, 2nd-3rd
Patterned Mittens
Students will follow along with a reading of The Mitten by Jan Brett. They will then draw and color a mitten. Students will decorate their mitten with patterns to help it stand out from the snow, like in the story.

Elementary, 4th
Emoji Hieroglyphics
Students will be introduced to hieroglyphics, the idea of visual communication, and emoji usage. Students will be challenged to use simple pictures like emojis to create an image that will communicate to the viewer. The class will then attempt to guess what the students' artwork are saying.
